Summary/Objective
The Machine Operator is responsible for the proper operation, maintenance, and safety checks associated
with the specific machine they are working with each day. The position works with the team to ensure the job
site is completed in a timely manner.
Essential Functions

1. Performs typical duties in operating machinery (trencher, ditch witch, skid steer, mini excavator,
fork lift, sweeper, billy goat vacuum), including but not limited to proper operation, maintenance and
safety checks associated with the specific machine.
2. Works with machinery to excavate, trench and otherwise move dirt.
3. Operates heavy equipment in safe and effective manner.
4. Coordinates excavation efforts with other drivers and/or operators.
5. Detects and reports defective materials or questionable conditions to the department supervisor.
6. Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean orderly condition and follows prescribed safety
regulations and preventative maintenance on machines as required.
7. Must be familiar with the basic machine functions in order to perform the tasks stated above.
8. Must be willing to accept and receive frequent supervision and assistance with regard to machine
set-up.
9. Navigates from site to site and communicates effectively with builders.

Work Environment
This job operates in an outdoor environment. This role routinely uses construction equipment such as
shovels, excavator, sweeper, ditch witch, and trencher. Some of the work will require exposure to loud
noises and an extended period of time in the sun.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position Monday through Friday, 40+ hours a week.
Travel
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may
be expected.
Education and Experience
High School diploma or GED required
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
1. Must have good command of the English language (written and spoken)
2. Good driving record required
