The Role

The Director of Projects and Procurement drive the selection and contracting of all needed subcontractors, as well as coordinating all internal and subcontractor-delegated procurement for the construction team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own subcontractor strategy: sourcing, vetting, bid management, and final selection across all trades
  • Lead contract negotiation and execution; ensure scopes are clear, complete, and aligned with project needs
  • Build and manage a high-performing subcontractor and supplier network
  • Drive all project procurement (direct and subcontractor-delegated), ensuring materials and equipment are delivered on schedule
  • Establish and enforce procurement workflows, tracking, and accountability across the construction team
  • Coordinate closely with engineering, construction, and finance to align scope, budget, and timing
  • Identify long-lead items early and proactively manage ordering, expediting, and delivery risk
  • Own bid leveling, cost comparisons, and value engineering to optimize cost without compromising execution
  • Manage change orders and contract modifications with discipline and clarity
  • Maintain visibility into procurement status, risks, and upcoming needs; communicate proactively to leadership
  • Continuously improve procurement and contracting processes to increase speed, reliability, and cost control

  • Proactively build strong subcontractor and supplier partnerships that improve project execution, reliability, and cost performance.
  • Consistently identify procurement risks early—especially long-lead materials—and take decisive action to keep projects on schedule.
  • Collaborate effectively across engineering, construction, and finance to align scope, budget, and delivery timelines.
  • Bring strong commercial judgment, balancing cost, schedule, and execution quality while negotiating favorable contract terms.
  • Thrive in fast-paced environments, maintain clear visibility into procurement status, and communicate priorities and risks proactively.

Basic Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience sourcing, vetting, and managing subcontractors across multiple construction trades.
  • Proven ability to negotiate, execute, and manage construction contracts, scopes of work, and change orders.
  • Strong understanding of construction procurement processes, including material planning, vendor coordination, and delivery logistics.
  • Ability to manage multiple procurement streams simultaneously while maintaining organization, accountability, and attention to detail.
  • Comfortable working cross-functionally with engineering, field operations, and finance teams to support project execution.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience leading subcontractor bid management, cost comparisons, and value engineering initiatives.
  • Strong knowledge of long-lead equipment planning, expediting, and supply chain risk mitigation.
  • Background developing procurement workflows, tracking systems, and accountability measures that improve efficiency and visibility.
  • Proven success operating in high-growth or execution-focused construction environments with a high level of ownership.
  • Skilled at identifying process improvements that increase procurement speed, reliability, and overall cost control.
