We are seeking a skilled Journalist to work as a project consultant in our AI Labor Marketplace. This is not a full-time employment position — you will be engaged as an expert project consultant on a contract basis.

Location: U.S.-based experts only

Engagement: Part-time, project-based expert evaluation work

Work Type: Remote

Project Summary: CareerBench evaluates how effectively AI systems provide career guidance across professional occupations. We are seeking experienced Journalists to evaluate AI-generated career guidance related to reporting, editing, investigative journalism, multimedia storytelling, newsroom careers, freelance journalism, and media industry advancement. Contributors will help ensure AI-generated recommendations accurately reflect the opportunities, challenges, and professional expectations associated with journalism careers.

This is a project-based consultant role. Consultants will be paid on a per-project basis; hourly rates are estimates based on anticipated completion time. Consultants control their own schedule, provide their own tools, and may simultaneously provide services to other vendors/employers (subject to those vendors’ allowances).

Responsibilities

Contributors will:

  • Create benchmark answers for journalism career questions
  • Develop scoring rubrics for evaluating AI-generated guidance
  • Assess recommendations related to reporting, editing, and content production careers
  • Review guidance concerning newsroom progression, specialization, and freelance opportunities
  • Evaluate advice involving portfolio development, audience engagement, and professional growth
  • Identify inaccurate, unrealistic, or outdated recommendations
  • Provide written explanations supporting evaluation outcomes

Qualifications
  • Minimum 3 years of journalism experience
  • Experience in reporting, editing, content production, or newsroom operations
  • Familiarity with journalism career pathways and media industry trends
  • Strong writing, editing, and communication skills
  • Ability to evaluate professional guidance objectively and consistently
  • Currently practicing or recently active in journalism
  • U.S.-based
