Get to Know The Role
We are hiring a Senior Engineering Manager to lead teams responsible for Mobile Frameworks, Backend Frameworks, and Build & Test Infrastructure (CI) within Grab’s Tech Infrastructure organization.
This role focuses on executing and scaling platform capabilities that shape how engineers write, build, test, and evolve software across Grab’s mobile and backend systems. You will work closely with senior ICs, peer managers, and platform leadership to turn strategy into adopted, reliable, and high-impact engineering foundations.
The scope includes:
- Backend frameworks supporting ~500 Go-based microservices (gRPC, Kubernetes)
- Native mobile frameworks for large iOS (Swift) and Android (Kotlin) applications
- Build and test infrastructure (CI) enabling fast feedback and automated quality
This role is ideal for a leader who combines strong technical depth, people leadership, and hands-on execution, and who enjoys driving real change in large, complex codebases.
What You’ll Do
- Lead delivery and evolution of mobile frameworks, backend frameworks, and CI platforms
- Execute on platform and agentic development strategies in partnership with senior leaders
- Drive adoption of new frameworks, tools, and testing practices across your teams and partner teams
- Lead initiatives to improve automated testing, test reliability, and shift-left quality
- Partner with senior ICs to guide architecture, review designs, and simplify complex systems
- Pilot new capabilities (including AI-assisted development) and help scale successful approaches
- Lead and develop a highly technical group of engineers and engineering managers
- Help teams navigate change while maintaining delivery momentum and engineering standards
- Collaborate closely with peer platform teams to ensure alignment and integration
Qualifications
What We’re Looking For
Experience & Background
- At least 10 years of software engineering experience
- Proven experience leading platform, framework, or developer infrastructure teams
- Experience supporting large engineering organizations and non-trivial legacy systems
- Track record of shipping platform capabilities that teams actually adopt
Technical Fluency
- Deep hands-on experience in at least one of:
- Backend systems (Go, gRPC, Kubernetes, microservices)
- Native mobile platforms (Swift / Kotlin)
- Build, test, or CI infrastructure
- Strong understanding of testing strategies and quality engineering
- Comfortable engaging in code, design reviews, and technical trade-offs
- Exposure to AI-assisted or agentic development tooling
Leadership & Execution
- Strong people manager who builds trust with senior engineers
- Able to translate strategy into clear plans and execution
- Comfortable driving adoption through influence, standards, and partnership
- Pragmatic, execution-oriented, and effective in ambiguous environments
Nice to Have
- Experience with developer productivity or internal platforms
- Experience modernizing large brownfield systems
