Get to Know the Team

Grab Legal team is a group of lawyers and specialists coming from various countries all over the world, who are open minded and very supportive with managers allowing some level of independence. Our Vietnam team is currently made of 5 members who report to Regional Legal Group and are taking care of the entire Vietnam' platform and financial businesses.

Mission of our Legal team is to:

  1. partner, advise and enable our business stakeholders to achieve our consumer-centric goals, spur continuous innovation and drive the business ahead;
  2. advise on legal risks and possible mitigating steps to help our stakeholders form commercially sound and reasonable decisions that contribute to sustainable growth.

Get to Know the Role

You will have a key role in the management of legal and regulatory matters of Grab VN, working closely and regularly with various competencies of all levels. You will get an opportunity to work in a US listed company, interface with various law firms, and liaise with government agencies.

The ideal candidate will have experience in e-commerce, payments, finance and/or insurance legal practice, and in particular in dealing with government regulators and governance documentation based on the specific requirements of commercial, banking and financial services businesses.

You will report to Vietnam General Counsel and base in the HCMC office.

The Critical Tasks You Will Perform

  1. Oversee the financial services regulatory licensing and compliance across business units, with an emphasis on banking regulations, marketing, and consumer protection laws related to such products and services, and interacting with regulators including State Bank of Vietnam on the same.
  2. Draft, advise and negotiate on commercial contracts related to company's daily business, mainly focusing on the following areas, including but not limited to, e-hailing and transportation, e-commerce & trading, enterprise and investment, merger and anti-trust, etc.
  3. Daily support on legal advice and legal analysis to the Regional and Country business stakeholders on a broad range of issues such as matters relating to payment services, consumer protection, labor, litigations, safety and fraud, etc.
  4. Provide legal and regulatory guidance on the products (design and modification), proactively identify associated risks and recommend mitigation strategies, review product user experiences to ensure legal compliance and proper disclosures;
  5. Develop and implement draft policies, procedures, processes and guiding documents to enhance the compliance status across all businesses.
  6. Represent Grab's interests and interface directly with regulatory agencies and external counsel, as appropriate;
  7. Perform any other duties or projects as assigned by the Regional and/or the management.

Qualifications

What Essential Skills You Will Need

  • Attorney admitted to practice in Vietnam.
  • Corporate, legal and regulatory experience in financial and/or e-commerce services in Vietnam.
  • 6-10 years PQE experience, with a preferable of at least 3 years in-house counsel experience in multi-national company.
  • Familiarity with the development and implementation of AML/CFT related compliance requirements;
  • Having the ability and commitment to travel within and, at times on short notice, in Vietnam or in SEA.
  • Having a strong legal, analytical, communication and presentation skills (commensurate with the candidate's experience);
  • Having an ability to understand the business, commercial requirements, company's strategies and directions, its people and its organisational structures;
  • Having awareness of legal and commercial risks as well as the ability to balance such risks against business benefits, with appropriate mitigation measures taken;
  • Having an ability to work under immense pressure and with minimal supervision.
  • Having an ability to do multiple tasks.
