We are seeking a Senior Security Engineer with experience in development or automation to serve as a senior member of our team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, building, and leading high-quality security automation systems that protect Grab’s extensive infrastructure, which includes 800+ application services, 2,000+ databases, a multi-cloud environment spanning three providers, and over 750 million database IOPS daily. Your work will play a critical role in strengthening the security of Grab’s internal operational processes at scale.

You will play a key role in leading, designing, developing, and scaling solutions for proactive safeguards and sane defaults for platforms, container security, threat detection, automated incident response, and security monitoring across Grab’s ecosystem. Get to know the role:

We are looking for a Senior Security Engineer to take charge of the Security Engineering initiatives. We believe a successful candidate has security engineering, infrastructure automation, integration, and development skills, but if you believe you have what it takes then we’d love to hear from you either way. This role is required because we are expanding our regional security engineering capabilities. In return, you will get an opportunity to work with and build a great team working on complex architectures and contributing to the security engineering of one of the largest cloud deployments in the region.

This role is onsite based in our Petaling Jaya, Malaysia office.

The Critical Tasks You Will Perform:

• Design, implement, and maintain secure, accurate and reliable security platforms.

• Interface with production engineering management to champion and ensure adoption of security standards and remediate security gaps.

• Contribute to the building, operating and maintaining of the overall security infrastructure and services to improve Grab prevent, detect and response capabilities.

• Lead a sub-discipline (cloud security, security operations, devsecops, security automation, and security architecture) within the Security Engineering team.

• Own and ensure that internal and external SLA’s meet and exceed expectations, Security Engineering centric KPIs are continuously monitored and improved.

• Create tools for automating deployment, monitoring and operations of the overall security platform.

• Participate in on-call rotation to provide infrastructure support, incident management, and troubleshooting.

• Provide ongoing maintenance and support of internal tools, improve system health and reliability.

Qualifications

What Essential Skills You Will Need:

• 4+ years of relevant experience developing and maintaining production systems/applications

• Comfortable to code in at least one high-level programming language - JavaScript, Java, Python or Golang for scripting and automation

• You have a proven track record of designing, developing, and implementing large-scale, available online services.

• You have solid Computer Science fundamentals in algorithms and data structures

• Solid software engineering and coding skills. Experience in at least one backend language like Go, Scala, Java, C++, or others is required. You can be a good coder in any language but must be willing to work on Golang

• Proficiency in building microservices architecture and solid understanding of distributed systems, RESTful APIs, and message queuing systems.

• Experience with relational databases (e.g., MySQL).

• Strong knowledge of software development best practices, including version control (Git), unit testing, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.

Good to Have:

• Proficient in managing public cloud services (AWS, Azure or GCP)

• Ability to perform automation using Terraform/Ansible/Chef/Puppet, Docker/Kubernetes, and any one CI tools (e.g. Jenkins, Gitlab, Travis CI etc.)

• Expert knowledge of security technologies (firewalls, EDR, SIEM, IAM, encryption)

• Strong understanding of common attack vectors and defense strategies

• Professional certifications preferred (CISSP, CEH, Security+, GIAC certifications)

• Experience with cloud security (AWS, Azure, GCP) and container security

• Proficiency in security scripting and automation (Python, PowerShell, Bash)

• Hands-on experience with vulnerability assessment tools and techniques

• Strong incident response and threat hunting skills
