Get to Know the Team

The team aims to create high-quality maps using all available data through manual editing and by leveraging artificial intelligence techniques. The envisioned end result, based on shared efforts with other geo teams, is to produce the best SE-Asia map in the world for use in all Grab products.

It is a mature team composed of map analysts with experience on editing various areas of the world, working side-by-side with Java developers, database developers, machine learning or site reliability engineers. The will to help others and also continuously grow, the desire to deliver high-standard, scalable and high-quality maps are among this team’s defining traits.

We also support the development of innovative, highly scalable models through deep research and advanced analysis to make our products intelligent and delightful for our customers.

Get to Know the Role
We are looking for a Map Analyst Manager to work on improving the map and enhancing it with up-to-date data generated by automatic detections and available datasets. This role also involves managing a team of analysts to ensure efficient and accurate data integration.

The Day-to-Day Activities

Leading a group of people, guiding them towards accomplishing set objectives:

  • Analyze map completeness in order to improve and maintain the map.

  • Facilitate intricate cross-team collaboration with software engineering and product management to deliver high-standard maps.

  • Use best practices to deliver high-quality maps and ensure quality across the entire project.

  • Create and update technical documentation relevant to the project.

  • Establish clear requirements to enhance the quality of ML models.

  • Identify and propose methods to increase map coverage through automated processes.

  • Manipulate various data types by applying GIS solutions.

  • Interrogate databases to expose map content by request.

  • Organize planning sessions and estimate efforts to implement, test and maintain features.

  • Manage vendor activities to achieve the requested quality.

  • Constantly improve productivity and process automation to reduce costs per feature.

Qualifications

The Must-Haves

Technical knowledge (2 years+ experience):

  • Good understanding and experience with cartography and GIS analysis

  • BS or MS degree in Geodesy, Cartography, Geomatics, or equivalent

  • Fluency in English

  • Experience with QGIS, GDAL/OGR or other related GIS technologies

  • Deep understanding of navigation engine: components and structure

  • Fast learner and adaptable to changing environment

  • PostgreSQL experience

People management (4 years+ experience):

  • Foster a culture of open communication and collaboration across teams.

  • Perform effectively under tight deadlines and manage time-sensitive tasks.

  • Establish and maintain communication flows between different teams to ensure seamless project execution.

  • Apply logical thinking to use detailed information for visualizing and understanding the big picture.

  • Have a clear understanding of the OKRs and align team efforts to meet them.

  • Take ownership of projects, demonstrate initiative, and ensure accountability for results.

  • Apply analytical and project management skills to assess project progress and implement improvements.

The Nice-to-Haves

  • Good knowledge and understanding of the OpenStreetMap environment and structure

  • Ability to work with the community developed tools (osmosis, OSMCha, Overpass)

  • Experience with improving OSM data for navigation purposes using JOSM platform

  • Familiarity with WebGIS services
