The Mobility team is an established team responsible for the ride-hailing module in the Grab app. We make an impact by continuously improving the core transport booking experience. We are working on high throughput, real-time distributed systems that use sophisticated machine learning techniques to solve hundreds of millions of requests per day. We are a distributed team with members spread across Singapore, Malaysia, China, and Vietnam. Our communication is in English, both in spoken and written form. Our team has direct end-user contact, and impact on the bottom line for Grab.

Get to know the Role

We are looking for a talented & passionate Software Engineer to join our team. You will be working on the critical backend services that are used by Grab users to place a ride. You’ll also be responsible for creating amazing passenger app experiences that are used by Grab user to place bookings. We have exciting product ideas and engineering challenges awaiting your participation, and you will be the first one experiencing your own work in the Grab app!

We are seeking talented & passionate Engineers to join our team, you will have opportunities to work on multiple backend services, as well as participating in immersions, talking directly to the end-users, identifying their challenges and how we can help them in their work life. It is very important that our team members take initiatives to identify problems, and have the right mindset and skill sets to solve them.

The Day-to-Day Activities

• Work closely with Product/Design/Analytics teams to understand problems, requirements, provide feedback, options, trade offs, and timelines.
• Collaborate with Android/IOS/Backend/QA/ML Engineers to brainstorm and implement technical solutions that are scalable, robust and addressing the actual problems.
• Write code that is reusable, scalable and testable. Make sure features are delivered on time and with high quality.
• Review code and engineering specs, provide constructive feedback and strive to raise the engineering bar.
• Be responsible and responsive during on-call duty. Able to triage, debug, mitigate and fix complex issues. Able to provide assistance on ad hoc queries from other teams.
• Identify pain points and inefficiencies in code base, system, and process, proactively propose and take action items to address them.

Qualifications

The Must-Haves

• 2+ years of professional software development experience.
• Strong English communication skills
• Deep understanding of Go programming language.
• Writes extensible code for assigned tasks and picks the right abstractions that adhere to SOLID principles. Understands data structures and algorithms and recognizes when to use them.
• Committed to maintaining a strong set of software engineering skills.
• Good Computer Science fundamentals in algorithms and data structures.
