Get to know our Team:

The Strategy & Projects (S&P) team works with stakeholders across all business functions in Grab to drive continuous improvements and lead special projects which would contribute to overall growth of the business. The team is responsible to generate business insights, propose data-driven strategic initiatives and lead large cross-functional projects to grow the business across Mobility, Deliveries ( GrabFood, GrabMart, GrabExpress) & Jaya Grocer.

Get to know the Role:

A Manager in the Strategy & Projects Team is expected to be able to navigate around highly ambiguous problem statements (with minimal guidance) to grow the Mobility & Deliveries business; including Jaya Grocer. The manager works with Senior Leaders within the organization to help set business direction for assigned portfolios and that would mean having to :

  • Grasp new and complex concepts quickly; whilst triangulating multiple views/data points to form opinions/recommendations to solve high priority problem statements
  • Assess trade offs in business decisions by evaluating effort vs ROI to help steer the team towards the right course of action; even if it means having to pivot from initial plans
  • Anticipate risks/weaknesses in plans and develop solutions ahead of others

For this particular role - the manager will own the Growth Portfolio for the Transport, Deliveries & Jaya Grocer (Online) business. This would require the candidate to use data-driven insights to define user growth & retention strategies across the above mentioned business lines within Grab Malaysia. The ideal candidate is also expected to independently ideate, plan, and lead various cross-functional strategic projects to solve broader business goals - this would mean (a) having the ability to work with/manage stakeholders across different teams such as Product, Marketing, Commercial & Operations and (b) having the ability to synthesize vast amounts of data to form data-backed solutions to various problem statements.

Scope includes:

  • Responsible for designing and implementing strategies to grow the overall business (both in user base and GMV) - in doing so the scope will require the candidate to identify problems/gaps in the business and drive end-to-end execution of recommended strategies
  • Mobilize and influence teams towards solving a common goal together and effectively. This entails being comfortable with driving alignments with senior leaders in the organization
  • Lead end-to-end projects involving cross-functional teams
  • Monitoring key growth metrics and identify ways to grow either by ideating new business models or optimizing existing initiatives/levers
  • Working with data (bonus if the candidate is able to query via SQL) to uncover new insights about our end users that could inform teams of new strategies to grow.
  • The ideal candidate should be able to execute complex analyses with minimal guidance and checks
  • Designing experiments (and owning end-to-end experimentation process) to validate key hypotheses

Qualifications

A strong candidate should have the following :-

  • At least 5-6 years of working experience in related fields (strategy, consulting, retail, e-commerce)
  • The candidate should demonstrate a strong and independent willingness to learn, have the ability to quickly understand new concepts, and exhibit an innate curiosity
  • Excellent problem-solving skills: Possesses the ability to take complex problems and break them down into actionable solutions, backed by data insights
  • Comfortable navigating through ambiguity
  • Able to combine various data sources (operational knowledge, industry/market knowledge & internal data) to propose sound decisions for the business
  • Have strong communication skills: Able to clearly articulate line of thinking; especially to Senior Leaders. The candidate would at times need to hold respectful debates with Senior Leaders when resolving highly complex problem statements as a team
  • Excellent analytical abilities. The candidate will need to be comfortable with drawing insights from complex, large data sets including the ability to present insights in a thoughtful manner
  • Strong project management and executional skills
  • SQL proficiency is preferred
