Rainmaker is pioneering a modern cloud seeding system to solve water scarcity and inclement weather problems.
Rainmaker scientists aim to understand the physical and chemical characteristics of novel cloud seeding particles and how they interact with clouds. This role is responsible for conducting highly technical and complex research projects independently and in consultation with a supervisor. It includes daily operation of laboratory equipment and assisting in experimental setup and execution of aerosol characterization studies.
What You'll Do
- Characterize aerosol samples by their size, hygroscopicity, and ice nucleation ability
- Synthesize novel aerosols
- Operate and maintain sophisticated laboratory equipment
- Process and analyze research data and effectively communicate the findings to the greater scientific and engineering teams
Required Qualifications
- Strong communication skills, ability to work independently and in a team setting
- Experience following detailed technical procedures
- Wet chemistry
- Chemical synthesis
- Experience in a laboratory research role with an emphasis in analytical equipment and physical measurements
- Able to produce consistent, high-quality results
- Ability to work effectively with shifting priorities
- Experience with experimental design and data interpretation
Preferred Qualifications
- Aerosol sizing, ice nucleation, or hygroscopic measurement experience
- Experience with sterile techniques for bacterial and cell culture
- Theoretical knowledge of biochemistry and/or microbiology
- Experience culturing bacterial and fungal strains using aseptic techniques and growth media.
- Familiarity with microbiology lab equipment (e.g., autoclaves, incubators, biosafety cabinets, spectrophotometers).
Preferred Education & Experience
- Preferred Education: Master’s degree in physical sciences, chemistry, biochemistry, bioengineering or other relevant engineering fields
- Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree in physical sciences, chemistry, biochemistry, bioengineering or other relevant engineering fields
- Preferred Experience: 3 years
- Minimum Experience: 1+ year working in a laboratory research or technical support role
- Preferred Field of Expertise: Atmospheric science, aerosol science, chemistry, biochemistry, bioengineering, nanoparticle synthesis.
