The Privacy Office is accountable for managing Grab's personal data practices. We are looking for a self-motivated, highly energized Senior / Regional Data Privacy Counsel to be part of our family to facilitate and oversee data privacy and data protection contracts & processes, so as to ensure that we stay compliant with regional privacy laws. 

Get to know the Role

 

As a Regional Data Privacy Counsel, you would be given a broad range of responsibilities providing legal guidance on global initiatives impacting privacy, data protection and security. You will partner cross-functionally with our Grabbers in Cybersecurity, procurement, engineering, product and other teams to advise on data uses while managing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance. You will be called upon to provide privacy and data security subject matter expertise to our legal counsels as they negotiate complex commercial deals that contribute to our products’ success. As we expand our offerings in SEA, your ideas and contributions will make an immediate impact.  

This individual will also be assisting the Head of Privacy Office in charting data privacy strategies and working closely with other privacy members of the team.
 

The Day-to-Day Activities

  • Able to independently lead negotiations in transactions.

  • Review and draft intra-company agreements, data processing agreements, contract terms and consumer notices, and negotiate data-related contract provisions with vendors and other business partners. 

  • Provide product, advertising, engineering and other business teams with practical legal advice on privacy and data protection rules in SEA.

  • Providing project support to legal team members on privacy and data protection issues.

  • Build, refine, and scale privacy and data protection compliance framework. 

  • Lead and support regulatory investigations and responses.

  • Collaborate with the public affairs team to monitor privacy and data-protection-related developments and coordinate communications with regulators as necessary.

The Must-Haves

  • Minimum 6 years PQE with a top-tier privacy private practice, preferably with in-house experience at a tech company.

  • Experienced in, and a strong passion for technology, big data, data governance, and data privacy.

  • Experienced in leading a team.

  • Good knowledge of data privacy and cybersecurity laws in APEC and EU. 

  • Flexibility and willingness to work on a broad range of legal matters and technologies.

  • A collaborative self-starter who can work independently, and be comfortable in a high-growth, fast-paced, and dynamic environment.

  • Team player with a proven track record of building cross-functional relationships.

  • Demonstrated ability to complete several simultaneous projects on a deadline.

  • Detail-oriented with excellent writing and oral skills.

  • CIPP or CIPM other certifications are a plus.

  • Knowledge of local financial regulations and/or GDPR would be an added advantage over other candidates.
