Grab Support’s goal is to assist our consumers on the journeys of their lives and become an enabler of seamless and meaningful interactions between Grab, its consumers, and partners. We are using cutting edge technologies to solve support problems for all verticals at Grab by building services and applying AI/ML to highly scalable, reliable and available services.

Get to know the Role

We are looking for an Engineering Manager II to lead the agent tooling team within the Grab Support Tech Family. You will manage our internal tooling products used by our agents to serve Passengers, Drivers and Merchants, thus have opportunities to work on multiple backend service clusters as well as key frontend stacks powering. These services are the top entry points for Grab support with millions of visitors every day across seven countries in total.

 

The Day-to-Day Activities

  You will support a team of smart and pragmatic engineers to build product and services that are frameworks, libraries and primitives that allow Grab engineers to build their products and services more efficiently.
  We build foundational tools so that Grab engineers don’t have to reinvent the wheel.
  Work with Grab engineers to solve their custom problems, and make them more productive.
  Work with your team on the following:

  • Work on future roadmaps for the team.

  • Run sprints and plan out the work for the sprint.

  • Design and enhance cutting edge (React, Ruby on Rails, GraphQL, Golang) components setting a high standard for availability, scalability, latency, and efficiency of Grab's range of products.

  • Build and deploy performant modern web applications in React.

  • Architect efficient and scalable backend systems (GraphQL and Golang).

  • Write unit, functional and end-to-end tests.

  • Write high-quality and well documented Golang code, and ensure documentation of our tools are up-to-date.

  • Safely roll-out large changes and updates that impact hundreds of engineers.

  • Identify and resolve performance and scalability issues.

  • Participate in design discussions and code reviews.

  • Be part of on-call for the services we own, and participate in post-mortems for any incidents.


The Must-Haves

  • A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or related fields.

  • 8+ years of software development experience, preferably in delivering large scale engineering products & services.

  • 3+ years of engineering management experience (preferably supporting teams of 5 or more software engineers).

  • Strong Computer Science fundamentals in algorithms and data structures.

  • Familiarity with running large scale web services; understanding of systems internals and networking are a necessary.

  • Strong understanding of system performance and scaling.

  • Possess excellent communication, sharp analytical abilities with proven design skills, able to think critically of the current system in terms of growth and stability.

  • Strong programming skills in React, Ruby on Rails but willing to work on Golang.

The Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience with GraphQL query language
